Community singing
Once a week we get together to sing. This 45 minute class is a very traditional part of the folk high school concept. However, we sing new popular songs and songs of an older date. Radio hit songs and songs that you probably haven't heard before. You are able to suggest your own favourite song and the students always find their common favourite song. There is always a special atmosphere in the room when we sing their common favourite song. And normally, there are lots of favourite songs and lots of great atmosphere.
Singing brings joy to life and a feeling of community and the meaning of the songs can evoke new thoughts. Those are important aspects of a stay at Vejle Sports School.
Singing is a great part of the folk high school spirit. Even though some students are hesitant to begin, most students wind up loving the community singing classes. The feeling of community and happiness can set aside all scepticism and the is my drive as a teacher. To see the student in a friendly argument about their favourite songs in an urge to convince the others to sing this or that song. This dedication and love of singing is what I like about the classes.
